Description

The Technical Review (TR) process is an event-driven process to provide assessment of technical health and design maturity of the engineering rigor applied throughout the acquisition product lifecycle.

The System Engineering TR process provides Naval Warfare (NAVWAR) program managers with independent assessment, from the Chief Engineering Office, of the program technical health and maturity at key points in the lifecycle. Historically this has been an iterative process consisting of several technical assessments. Each technical assessment formally verify that required SE tasks have been successfully completed and documented before proceeding and finish with a formal meeting that documents recommendations to program management. This process required all program data to be provided to separate SharePoint sites, generation of multiple spreadsheets, several in person meetings, and a seven-person support staff.

During this session I will demonstrate how NAVWAR is using Aras Innovator to digitally transform every stage of the Technical Review. By establishing Aras Innovator as a key piece of the Authoritative Source of Truth (ASoT), automating the development of functional area checklists, managing technical risks for each program, and providing integrated dashboards, we have reduced the staff requirements from seven people to one person.
