Managing Product Design Maturity Using Aras Innovator

Cubic Corporation is a global provider of integrated systems and services that provide increased situational awareness for defense and commercial transportation customers worldwide. Headquartered in San Diego, California, Cubic has a workforce of approximately 8,000 employees and a global presence in over 60 countries.

In February of 2018 Cubic selected the Aras PLM platform over competing proposals due to its highly flexible design and ease of integration with other systems. This proved to be essential when implementing extensive customization to the Engineering Change Order (ECO) workflow.

Considering the diversified nature of Cubic’s product lines, it implemented dynamic workflow activity assignments, where each approver is determined by the system based on pre-configured business rules. The change process also accommodates exclusive review requirements based on an item’s design maturity (In Design, Prototype, Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), and Production).

User’s usability was improved by enhancing the InBasket to provide immediate notification of assigned tasks and to allow individual team members to claim group assigned tasks.

Cubic extracts data from Aras Innovator by integrating with SAP HANA to present focused, actionable data analytics using Tableau. This enables the executive steering committee to view metrics on overall ECO cycle times, project team utilization, process bottlenecks, and more and take business critical executive decisions.
